Hovercraft

An air cushion ship (English: hovercraft) or hovercraft is a vehicle that runs on an air cushion. The air cushion is created by blowing air into the lower space of the ship (plenum chamber) through the skirt (flexible bulkhead) so that the air pressure in the plenum chamber is higher than the air pressure outside so that a lifting force arises.[1] To move a hovercraft, thrust is used which is obtained from the propeller like on an airplane. The lifting force of this ship works over a wide cross-section, so that the pressure on the ground or water (ground pressure) generated is not large. Thus, this vehicle can run on mud, water or land while carrying quite a heavy load. Because there is no direct contact between the hovercraft and the surface of land or water, the resistance is small so the hovercraft can travel at high speed.
